Exped – Downmat 9 LW Review

You can buy the Exped Downmat 9 LW at www.urbanoutdoor.dk

The Exped DownMat 9 LW is super comfortable, very warm and more compact thanks to the down filling.

The thick cushion of air also provides comfort and smooths out uneven ground. And as down compresses extremely well, Downmats pack smaller than other insulated mats of the same warmth. The integrated pump makes inflation easy.

700 fill goose down is placed in cells similar to down sleeping bags.

Foam baffles prevent down from escaping through the valves and migrating from one chamber to the next.

Exped only uses IDFL-certified goose down, specially treated to eliminate the effects of humidity that may reach the mat’s interior.

Light foam blocks at the mat’s ends prevent down from escaping or migrating between chambers.

Laminated polyester fabric is both durable and airtight. Top surface of honeycomb textured fabric provides superior slip resistance and comfort next to the skin.

Seams are all high-frequency welded (most secure method of fusing fabrics and materials) to ensure mat integrity.

Both low profile valves one for inflation and the other for deflation ensure ease of use. As the valves are flat and not on the mat‘s edge they do not protrude and are therefore protected and durable.

Light and warm:
The DownMat 9 LW is probably the finest mat around and allows you to use a lighter weight sleeping bag with a DownMat to achieve consistent overall comfort, and still reduce weight and bulk.

Filling: Down
Temperature: (°C) -38
Dimensions: 193 cm x 65 cm x 9 cm (76″ x 26″ x 3.5″)
R-Value: 8.0

What is R-value (insulation value)?
R-value indicates the resistance to heat transfer through 1m2 of the material.

In layman terms it’s like looking at how cold the ground can be, before you are going to freeze.

R-value is specified by the manufacturer, using an “average” person, and you have to factor in your own resistance to cold and heat.

Some people can feel cold on a sleeping pad, while others can feel comfortable on the same pad in the same surroundings.

You can use the R-value roughly as follows:
Summer: Up to 2
Spring and autumn: 2-4
Winter: 4-7
Extreme cold: From 7 and up
